The Henry Girls, a trio of sisters from Co. Donegal, Ireland, will perform a concert on Monday, March 10 at 7:30pm at The Upper Bout guitar and music store at 723 S. Neil St. in Champaign. The concert is being presented by Heartland Gallery, Sylvia’s Irish Inn, and The Upper Bout.
Karen, Lorna, and Joleen McLaughlin all studied music from an early age and are multi-instrumentalists, as well as vocalists. Their sound has been described as a mix of Irish folk music and Americana, or folk and roots. They are best known for their tight three-part vocal harmonies. The sisters formed their band more than ten years ago, naming it after their grandfather. They released their first album, Between Us in 2003, and followed with Dawn in 2010, the year they were also nominated for an Irish Film and Television award for Best Original Score for the film A Shine of Rainbows. In 2011, December Moon was released, and their most recent launch is Louder Than Words. This visit marks their third headline tour to the U.S, and is being partially funded by Culture Ireland.
Tickets to the event can be purchased by cash or check beginning March 1 at The Upper Bout, or you may reserve a seat by calling Jan from Heartland Gallery at 217-377-4502, or Sylvia at 217-979-1216. General admission tickets are $15, and students and seniors are $10. Seating is limited, so reservations are strongly recommended.
